8.5mcf more gas being connected to national grid

More 8.5 million cubic feet of gas is being connected to the national grid from Haripur No. 7 gas well in Jaintapur Upazila of Sylhet. 

Sylhet-7 gas well was connected to the national transmission line on Monday afternoon.

Confirming the matter, Managing Director (MD) of Sylhet Gas Field Limited (SGFL) Mizanur Rahman said that another 8.5 million cubic feet of gas is going to the national grid experimentally from well No. 7.

According to gas field sources, the search has been going on since July in the old gas well Sylhet-7 well. 

On October 14, the well was tested at a depth of 2,000 meters and 7 million cubic feet of gas was found.

Then on October 22, another 8.5 million cubic feet of gas was found at a depth of 1,200 meters in that well. After a week of experimental gas production, the well was prepared to supply gas to the national grid. Officials also said that 8.5 million cubic feet of gas can be supplied from this well every day.

Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited BAPEX has drilled and extracted gas in 14 wells in Sylhet. Among them, gas extraction continues from 2 wells in Haripur gas field in Jaintapur, 3 wells in Kailashtila in Golapganj, 7 wells in Rashidpur, and 2 wells in Biyanibazar.

Out of this, in Haripur Gasfield of Jaintapur, 9 wells were tested in 1955 and gas was found in 2 of them and two of these wells went into production in 1961. Kailashtila of Golapganj tested 7 wells in 1962 and found gas in 3 of them and went into production in 1983. In Rashidpur gas field, 11 wells were dug in 1960 and 7 gas production started in 1993. Two wells were drilled in Biyanibazar gas field in 1981 and gas was found in both of them and they went into production in 1999.
