The government has completed to distribute food assistance among the fishermen families under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme for the banning periods of hilsha fishing in the three upazilas of the district.
Under the programme, a total of 8,000 fishermen families of the Padma and Jamuna river side residents of Harirampur, Shibalaya and Daulatpur upazilas of the district are getting 20 kgs of rice as food assistance for each of the families.
District Fishery Officer Saifur Rahman said the VGF rice is being continued to distribute among the listed families. District administrations distributing the food aid to reduce the sufferings of fishermen during the banning periods.
The government already declared banning of hilsha fishing from October 4 to October 25.
