The seventh convocation ceremony of Eastern University was held on Tuesday at Bashundhara International Convention City in the capital.
A total of 3,109 students graduated from fall semester of 2019 to the spring semester of 2023 and 10 students with the highest CGPA from four faculties achieved gold medals in the ceremony.
Presiding over the convocation as the representative of the President Mohammed Shahabuddin, deputy minister of Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury called on the fresh graduates to prioritise skill-based jobs over desk jobs.
To acquire skills and gain experience in a specific field, the deputy minister suggested the graduates to work as apprentices, even without payment.
The minister advised the graduates never to get discouraged in adverse situations, and said that one must have perseverance to reach the peak of success.
Addressing the event as the convocation speaker, emeritus professor AK Azad Chowdhury said that graduates would represent the country tomorrow.
He, also the former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University urged the graduates to play a role in building an ideal society, being inspired by the mantras of justice, morality and patriotism.
The Eastern University vice-chancellor professor Shahid Akhtar Hossain inaugurated the ceremony while chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university, Mohammad Ali Azzam, delivered congratulatory speech addressing the graduates.
Cultural performances took place with the participation of the students of the university and rock band Chirkutt to glorify the event.
