74 arrested in Tongi

In a large-scale operation, joint forces arrested 74 people and seized significant quantities of drugs, weapons, and cash from Keranirtek slum and nearby areas around Tongi Railway Station in Gazipur on Monday. 

Those arrested are suspected of involvement in drug trafficking in the area.

Acting on a tip-off, a coordinated team comprising members of the army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police launched the raid early Monday morning around 3:00 am. 

The operation, led by Lt Col Mahbub, continued for hours and was ongoing as of 1:00 pm.

Among those detained were 53 men and 21 women. During the raid, officials seized Tk Tk 22 lakh in cash, two to three tolas of gold, 10 kilograms of marijuana, 2,500 yaba tablets, 20 bottles of liquor, 10 bottles of phensedyl, and various sharp weapons from the slum dwellings. 

Additionally, 1,100 liters of local and imported alcohol were confiscated from Hotel Javan.

The operation involved approximately 500 personnel from the Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, RAB, and police, marking one of the largest joint-force operations in recent months in Gazipur.
