Seven students of Araihazar Pilot Model Govt High School in Narayanganj have been expelled for assaulting a teacher, confirmed Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ishtiaq Ahmed on Friday afternoon. The decision was made during an emergency meeting chaired by UNO Ishtiaq Ahmed, also the school president.

According to school sources, a class 10 student from Araihazar Pilot Model Govt High School had been harassing a student of Sultansadi High School & College for some time. Despite warnings from locals, the harassment persisted. Assistant teacher Pradeep Biswas intervened, advising the students to focus on studies and refrain from troubling others.

On June 10, after school hours, Pradeep Biswas was attacked by Akib and his accomplices from Araihazar Pilot Model Govt High School. He was severely beaten and injured, prompting outcry from the local teaching community. The incident led to swift action from UNO Ishtiaq Ahmed, who chaired an emergency meeting on Thursday, resulting in the expulsion of the seven students involved.

Mohammad Giyasuddin Sarkar, President of the Independence Teachers' Council and principal of Central Coronation High School, Duptara, condemned the assault, emphasising the respect teachers deserve during their duties.

UNO Ishtiaq Ahmed reiterated the importance of respecting teachers, describing the assault as regrettable. He assured me that measures are being taken to prevent such incidents in schools.
