A Chapainawabganj court has awarded life term imprisonment to seven people in the Mukul murder case. The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each, in default, six-month imprisonment.
Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court of Chapanawabganj Md Rabiul Islam pronounced the verdict in presence of six of the convicts.
The convicts are Dolar and Sweet, sons of Aftab Ali of Gongarampur village under Mobarakpur union of Shibganj upazila in the district, Alauddin, son of Setaur Rahman of the village, Bakkar Ali, Lal Mohammad, and Bahar Ali, son of Ayesh Mollah. Sweet is absconding.
The court, however, acquitted 13 other accused from the case as charges against them were not proved.
According to the case statement, Mukul, son of Rabiul Islam of Gongarampur village, was stabbed to death near his home on January 9 in 2005. Convict Sweet along with others attacked Mukul with local weapons. However, several other persons were also injured in the attack.
A dispute between family of Mukul and Sweet had been going on for long over land related issue.
