7 cos fined for breaching consumer rights protection laws

The mobile court has seven companies Tk fined 2 lakh 81 thousand after raiding the hotel-motel zone of Cox's Bazar city on allegations of having inadequate and defective fire-extinguishing system and violation of consumer rights law.

Additional District Executive Magistrate (ADM) of Cox's Bazar said that these raids were conducted in the hotel-motel zone of Cox's Bazar city from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Yamin Hossain.

Yamin Hossain said that two teams led by two executive magistrates of the district administration conducted raids in the hotel-motel zone to make the tourist city of Cox's Bazar safe from fire accidents and prevent the travel of tourists from 12 noon on Tuesday. In this, seven establishments have been fined Tk 281,000 for failing to properly serve fire-extinguishing systems in residential hotels and not displaying price lists in food restaurants.

Among these allegations, the mobile court fined Tk 1 lakh to elite Hotel Long Beach, Tk 50 thousand to Hotel Sea Palace, Tk 50 thousand to Hotel Kallol, Tk 10 thousand to Hotel Media, Tk 20 thousand to Kachchi Dine Restaurant and Tk 50 thousand to Hotel Media's restaurant. Besides, an unauthorized small shop next to Hotel Media has been fined Tk 1,000.

Yamin Hossain said that the penalized institutions have been warned besides collecting fines and giving instructions to quickly overcome the errors. This operation of the administration will continue for the next few days.
