Almost 64 percent of the students aged between 12 and 18 have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine, said Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel.
He made the statement at the 16th session of the 11th National Parliament on Monday.
Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury said, “The number of students aged between 12 and 18 in our country is about 11,623,322. Of them, we have been able to give the first dose of vaccine to 7,718,337 students till Sunday which is 64.04 percent of the total number. Many countries in the world do not even have such a huge population. We have a large number of students in the country and we have been able to vaccinate them.”
He mentioned that almost all the teachers of universities have been vaccinated.
“Some 90 percent of the students in public universities staying at halls have been vaccinated. We have been able to provide vaccine everywhere in coordination with the Ministry of Health, starting from private universities to colleges under the National University,” he added.
The Deputy Minister further said that due to the Corona vaccine crisis, many countries of the world have not been able to vaccinate yet.
“Our Prime Minister has ensured vaccination for students up to school level. I would like to express my gratitude to her for this act,” he said.
He further said, “I think the whole world is going through a catastrophic pandemic and even in this situation an expensive vaccine like Pfizer is being given to those who have not yet reached adulthood in our country.”
