All six members of a family including an infant and two females received burn injuries in a fire originated from gas cylinder at Masdair area under Sadarupazila in Narayanganj in the wee hour of Tuesday.
The victims are Mishal, 26, his wife Mita, 23, their 18-month-old son Minhaz, daughter Afsana Akter and Mishal’sbrother-in-laws Mahfuz and Sajib.
Sources said that the fire incident occurred in a rented flat on the fifth floor in a building where they used to live as tenants.
The owner of the house, Akbar Hossain, is an expatriate who stays in Saudi Arabia. His younger brother Kawser Ahmed told the media that they heard a big bang on the fifth floor at midnight then found blaze and smoke were coming out from the flat.
On information, locals andfirefighters from Mondol Para fire service station rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
Some structures of two flats on fifth floor and a flat in fourth floor were damaged partially due to the fire, Station Master Belal Hossain said.
All six critically injured were rushed to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Sources further said that the fire might have originated from a leaked gas line from the cylinder in the flat. However, the gas cylinder didn’t explode.
Officer-in-Charge of FatullaModel Police Station Raqibuzzamanconfirmed the matter to the media and said that all the fire victims are in critical condition.
