58th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in Jhenaidah on Monday.
Jhenaidah district administration organized a discussion meeting, drawing competition and cultural events to mark the day.
On the other hand Jhenaidah office of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) had transplanted 100 palm saplings marking the historical day.
The celebration of the day began with placing floral wreaths at Sheikh Russel's portrait on Jhenaidah Old DC Court premises.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jhenaidah Mozibor Rahman at the time placed a floral wreath on behalf the state, while district police, upazila administration and other government organizations followed the norm.
The discussion meeting was held at Jhenaidah district Shipakala academy with Deputy Commissioner Mozibor Rahman in the chair. Lawmaker from Jhenaidah-1 constituency Abdul Hyee attended the discussion as chief guest.
Bangladesh Awmi League's Jhenaidah district unit General Secretary, also Jhenaidah Municipal Mayor Saidul Karim Mintu, Additional Superintendent of Police (headquarters) Abu Rasel, Aditional Deputy Commissioner (General) Selim Reza among others spoke as special guests.
DAE in Jhenaidah had transplanted 100 saplings of palm trees for a thunder-free and environment-friendly climate to mark the historical Sheikh Russel Day. The saplings were transplanted beside Gobindapur road in the town.
Jhenaidah DAE Deputy Director Asgar Ali, Upazila Agriculture Officer Jahidul Karim among others were present there.
They also distributed palm saplings among students of various educational institutions at the time.
