The Dhaka Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has taken strict action against 55 candidates who were caught cheating during the 2024 SSC exam. All of their current year’s SSC exams have been cancelled, and these students will face different punishments based on the severity of their actions.
Out of the 55 students, 52 will be allowed to retake the SSC exam in 2025. However, they will not be able to use their 2024 exam results. Two other students will not be allowed to take the exam in 2025 but may appear in 2026. One student has received the harshest punishment and will not be able to sit for the SSC exam until 2027.
These decisions were made by the Education Board's Disciplinary Committee. The board reviewed complaints from various exam centers, along with answer sheets, and reports from room inspectors, hall superintendents, and center secretaries. The committee divided the students into three categories based on their offenses and gave punishments accordingly.
This year’s SSC exams began on February 15, with the written tests ending on March 12. Practical exams were held between March 13 and March 20. A total of 20,24,192 students took the exams under 11 education boards. Of these, 16,06,879 candidates were under 9 general education boards, 2,42,314 under the Madrasa Education Board, and 1,26,373 took the exams under the Technical Education Board.
The Dhaka Board hopes that these punishments will act as a deterrent to students and encourage honesty during future exams.
