An organisation has started sowing of palm seeds at a number of places in Jhenaidah Sadar to protect the environment, thunderbolt and meet the nutrition aspects.
The palm seed sowing programme was started at both sides of the irrigation canals of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) at Nebutala, Kumrabaria and Kanejpur. Organized by a non-government organization in Jhenaidah Shelter Samajkalyan Sanstha, local organizations Padma Samajkalyan Sanstha and coastal development partner (CPD) jointly assisted the activities.
Shelter Samajkalyan Sanstha executive director Romena Begum, deputy director Shahnur Reza, programme coordinator Roksana Khatun, CPD coordinator Habibur Rahman, journalist Sazzad Ahmed, social afforestation committee president Nurul Islam and social worker Al Amin among others present.
Shelter Samajkalyan Sanstha executive director Romena Begum in her speech said the environment is now under threat due to climate change and evil attitude of some of the anti-environmental people. They have been decaying the waterbodies, soil, forestry and other spots to attain their own interest.
Sowing of palm trees might help to protect our environment from thunderbolt havoc and can play role in meeting the nutrition aspects of the people of our country producing molasses and drinks from the palm trees.
It might also play role to strengthen socio-economic state of the rural people when the prices of sugar and molasses went higher in the market, Romena begum said.
