Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam has revealed that around 500 police vehicles were torched during the student-mass movement in July-August.

Talking to reporters following a seminar on Thursday, the IGP said that despite initial challenges, the vehicles in the affected police stations have been replaced, and all stations are now operating smoothly.

“The police are working with all stakeholders, and our activities have resumed their usual pace,” he said.

IGP Mainul Islam spoke at a seminar at the Tourist Police Headquarters in Far East Tower on Topkhana Road in the capital.

He highlighted the improving relationship between the police and the public, adding that the force is committed to solving issues faced by common citizens.

As per police headquarters, there are 639 police stations in the country, with 110 in metropolitan areas and 529 in districts.

Regarding security for the upcoming Durga Puja, the IGP assured that there is no security threat.

“The Durga Puja has been celebrated peacefully in this country for years, and it will be the same this time,” he said, adding that the police would remain on high alert. “There is no risk of terrorist attacks, but we will ensure strict security without any concessions.”
