A total of 50 pirates of 12 gangs on Thursday surrendered along with firearms to the law enforcing agencies.
Home Ministry and RAB-7 arranged a function for the surrender of the pirates at Elite Hall of Rab-7 in city’s Patenga in Chattogram on Thursday morning. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was present at the function as chief guest.
The surrendered pirates promised to return to normal life after leaving the criminal activities.
Lieutenant Colonel Mahbuul Alam, Commander of Rab-7, said among the 50 pirates, one is female and three of them were listed by the Home Ministry.
A total of 35 guns, 18 single barrel light guns (SBLGs, 17 one-shutter guns, one gun, one pistol, one revolver, three foreign-made pistols, one SMG and two air guns were deposited by the Pirates before the Home Minister.
So far, a total of 342 notorious pirates of Banshkhali, Chakoria, Pekua, Maheshkhali, Kutubdia, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar have been arrested and around 2603 arms and 29,123 ammunitions were recovered from their possessions, according to Rab-7 till Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the government will make the Bay of Bengal and the entire coastal belt of Bangladesh
free from pirates and robbers soon.
“The Rapid Action Battalion, Coast Guard, Border Guard Bangladesh, Ansar, and Police are sincerely working together to free the Bay and coastal belts of Bangladesh from pirates and robbers.”
“We will get rid of militants, robbers, pirates, and terrorists soon,” he expressed hope while addressing as the chief guest at the surrender-ceremony of pirates in the city’s Patenga RAB-7 headquarters.
