50 more homeless, landless people to get houses in Kishoreganj

Fifty more homeless and landless people are getting houses in Kishoreganj in the 5th phase under the 'Ashrayan-2' project of the Prime Minister's Office. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the house handover programme on June 11 through a video conference and give the landless and homeless families the house acceptance deed, name letter, house grant certificate, DCR copy and house keys.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad gave this information at a press conference organised at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner on Saturday noon.

He said the total number of houses allocated for the district is 2,840 while the district has got 2,790 houses in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th (first part) phases. Out of the remaining 50 houses in the 5th phase (2nd part), Hossainpur upazila will get 14 houses while Nikli upazila one, Bajitpur upazila 20 and Tarail upazila 15 houses. A total of 160 single houses in Bhairab upazila and 120 in Kuliarchar upazila, replacing the old dilapidated ones, will also be inaugurated by the Prime Minister on June 11.

The Deputy Commissioner also said 13 upazilas of Kishoreganj district -- Kishoreganj Sadar, Katiyadi, Pakundia, Bhairab, Ashtagram, Hossainpur, Karimganj, Bajitpur, Kuliarchar, Nikli, Mithamin, Itna and Tarail – have already been declared landless-homeless free upazilas. The prime minister has extended the duration of the ongoing Asharyan-2 project till June 2025. According to the latest updated list, those upazilas which have already been declared landless-homeless-free, if any more landless-homeless families remain in those upazilas due to natural disasters or otherwise, rehabilitation measures will be taken according to the rules.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) ATM Farhad Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Fairuz Tasnim, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Ishrat Jahan, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md Mahmudul Hasan, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Roshan Kabir, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate SM Mehdi Hasan, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md Sufi Sajjad Al Fozayel, among others, were present at the press conference.

Earlier in the morning, a colourful procession led by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Russell Sheikh, was brought out from the premises of the Deputy Commissioner's office on the occasion of the Land Service Week. The procession paraded the main roads of the district town and ended at the same place. 

Later, a public awareness meeting was held on the occasion of the Land Service Week at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad was the chief guest while Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) ATM Farhad Chowdhury presided over the programme. Zilla Parishad Chairman Zillur Rahman and Civil Surgeon Saiful Islam attended it as special guests.
