Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdus Shahid Saturday asked the agriculture department of the district to formulate a plan within the next 50 days to bring all the fallow land under cultivation with suitable crops.
The minister gave the directive at a courtyard meeting with farmers at Noagaon village of Srimangal upazila. About 500 farmers of the upazila were present in the meeting held at the courtyard of a local farmer.
“Boro season is already over, but most of the land is lying fallow after harvesting the Aman paddy.
We have to find ways to utilize these lands,” Abdus Shahid said.
Urging BADC to take action plan to solve irrigation problem, the agriculture minister said more agricultural machineries will be given at subsidized price to solve the labor crisis.
Assuring the farmers to resolve the problems related to agriculture the minister said, “We must grow food in every inch of land and will increase food production to make the country self-reliant as directed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
Deputy director of DAE Samsuddun Ahmed, UNO Abu Taleb and Awami League upazila unit president Ardendhu Kumar Deb, among others, were present.
