5 smugglers held with rare species of woodpeckers

West Zone of Bangladesh Coast Guard under BCG Outpost Naliyan conducted an operation in the area adjacent to Garikhali Ferry Ghat under Paikgachha Police Station of Khulna district in the afternoon of October 6 and arrested five smugglers with two rare species of woodpeckers. The estimated market value of the two arrested woodpeckers is Tk. 2,14,30,000 / - (only Rs. 2,14,300,000). One of the two rare species of woodpeckers weighs 400 grams and is 16 inches long and the other weighs 300 grams and is 12 inches long.

The names of the smugglers are 1. Mohammad Saiful Islam (30), father Hakim Moral, village Mathbati, Paikgachha, Khulna. 2. Ziaul (30), father Rashid Daftary, village Bechua, Gadaipur, Paikgachha, Khulna. 3. Rubel (25), father Sahabuddin, Paikgachha, Khulna. 4. Rashid (28), Liaquat Ali, village Katuli, Paikgachha, Khulna. 5. Joynal (30), father Isa Biswas, Mathbaria, Gadaipur, Paikgachha, Khulna. The two seized woodpeckers were later handed over to the Paikgachha Forest Office under the supervision of UNO Paikgachha and the detainees were released after paying a fine. In addition to maintaining law and order and public safety in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard, the Coast Guard will continue its operations in the Sundarbans on piracy, piracy and robbery, drug control and wildlife protection, and that success is part of this regular operation.
