Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained six people, including five Rohingyas with 2 lakh pieces of Yabapills at Naikhyangchhari border in Bandarban on Thursday.
The Yaba pills were recovered from the RejuAmtaliAam Bagan area of Ghumdhum Union in NaikhyangchhariUpazila around 8:30 am. BGB sources said the estimated value of the recovered Yaba is about Tk 6 crore.
The detainees are identified as Md. Rahmat Ullah, 25 son of Fakir Ahmed, Md. Mahmudul Hasan, 21, son of Nur Ahmed, Md. Selim, 22, son of Abdul Alim, Md. Amin, 22, son of Sona Ali, Md. Ziabul Haque, 26, son of Ali Hossain of Rohingya camp in Kutupalong Lambashia-1, Ukhia and Md Joynal Abedin, 25, son of Mir Ahmed of Thaingkhali village in Palangkhali union of Ukhiaupazila.
Cox's Bazar 34 BGB captain Lt. Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed said, "Based on the secret news that a yaba consignment from Myanmar has entered Bangladesh, members of NaikhyangchhariRejuAmtali BOP had set traps at RejuAmtaliAmbagan of Ghumdhum UP No. 3 in Naikhyangchhariupazila".
When, hey saw six people coming towards Bangladesh from the border, the BOP patrol team challenged them, they tried to run. Later, searching their bodies, two lakh pieces of Yaba tablets were recevered hidden inside towels wrapped around their waists.
Action has been taken in this regard in the relevant law, added BGB sources.
