At least five people were killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a pick-up van on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Gharinda area in Tangail early on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Bulbul, 40, son of Md Tofazzal Hossain from Godagari upazila of Rajshahi, worker Babul Mia, 32, Sobhan, 34, Nazrul Islam, 35, Riyad Mia, 30.
Md Ziaul Haque, a sub-inspector of Elenga highway police outpost, said that a Dhaka-bound truck collided head-on with an oncoming pick-up van at Gharinda bypass area on Dhaka-Tangail highway around 4:30am.
Four people died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries at Tangail General Hospital. Two injured were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The SI said the drivers lost control over the wheels due to dense fog on the highway.
Meanwhile, a father and son were killed in a road crash at Niyamatpur area Naogaon on Tuesday noon. Another man was injured at the time. The accident took place at Bhadrand Mor on Niamatpur-Dhansura road in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Azad Ali, 45, son of Tafir Uddin of Jhaljhalia village under the upazila and his son Shahadat Hossain, 18. The injured was identified as truck driver Sohan Ali, 18, of the same village.
It is learned that Azad Ali and his son Shahadat Hossain were going to the upazila from their village home on a motorcycle.
A speeding freight truck coming from the opposite direction hit the motorcycle on the way. Father Azad Ali died on the spot.
Niamatpur Police Station OC Humayun Kabir said, the truck was seized and a case has been filed in this regard.
