Five people were killed and five others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a human hauler, locally known as Leguna, on the Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway of Sirajganj in the early hours of Thursday.
The accident took place in Ramarchar area under Salanga union of the district on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway around 2:00am.
The deceased were identified as Makul Hossain, 35, son of Abdul Majid, Monir Hossain, 34, son of Abul Hossain, Maqbul Hossain, 35, son of Jamir Uddin, Abdul Halim son of Ijal Haque and Haider Ali, 40, son of Quddus. All the deceased hailed from Natore. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station Lutfar Rahman confirmed the matter. He said three people were killed on the spot when a truck collided head-on with a human hauler at 2:00am on Thursday. Several others were injured in the accident. The injured were rushed to different hospitals, he added.
One of the critically injured persons died in the hospital while another died on the way to hospital, sources said.
