Five people were injured and a motorbike and business establishment were vandalized during a clash between two rival groups of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at Khalkula village in Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah on Friday.
The injured were identified as Shukur Ali, 60, Siddique Hossian, 40, Jalil Rana, 45, Sazzadur Rahman, 35, and Nazrul Islam, 50. Four of them were taken to Kaliganj upazila Health Complex, while injured Siddique Hossain was refereed to Jashore 250-Bed general hospital in a critical state.

The locals said two groups of BNP led by BNP leader Abdul Jalil and general secretary of BNP Kola union unit Shukur Ali were locked in a clash at about 8:00pm on Friday. The people engaged in clash vandalized a motorbike and a business establishment in the local market during the time.
Injured Shukur Ali said he appeared at the spot hearing that two groups of BNP were clashing to establish dominance in the locality. As he arrived there, some of them caught him and started to beat him brutally.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj police station, Manik Gain, said on information, he himself went to Kola Bazar. A clash occurred between two parties over dominance. However, he mentioned that the situation is currently under control and normal.
