Police arrested five people over the connection of attacking journalist Rafiqul Islam, a Rajshahi correspondent of Kalerkantho over a trifling matter by some security guards of a building on Monday.
After the incident, the victim lodged a case with Boalia Police Station accusing 9 named and unnamed persons. Later, a team of police arrested five security guards of the building and recovered a mobile set and helmet of the victim.
The guards are identified as Abdul Hakim, 45, Nahid Hasan, 20, Sony, 20, Jamal Hossain Alias Munna, 25 and Sayeed Ali, 34.
According to the case statement, Rafiqul went a market for buying fish after keeping his motorcycle in front of Thim Omor Plaza. Seeing this, the accused security guards of the building locked into a quarrel with Rafiqul and snatched his helmet of the motorcycle.
The witnesses said, giving not return the victim’s helmet, the guards also tried to snatch his motorcycle. At one stage of scuffle, they beat him up with sticks and rods and he was injured seriously on his head and legs.
The victim, however, was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for his better treatment.
Quoting manager of the Thim Omor Plaza, the Boalia Police Station Officer-In-Charge Nibaron Chandra Barmon said that the five guards have already been fired.
