In a special operation of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG), a steel body and 5,680 kg (142 mounds) of Jatka (young hilsa) was seized on Thursday early morning. However, no one was detained in this connection.
Lt. Commander Amirul Haque, Media Officer at the Bangladesh Coast Guard headquarters, informed this on Thursday afternoon.
Lt. Commander Amirul Haque said Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Barishal conducted two operations on the basis of secret information. During the operations, 880 kg of Jatka was seized from an engine-driven fighter boat from Kirtankhola river under Bandar police station of Barishal and 4,800 kg of Jatka was seized from a steel body near Barishal Launch Ghat.
Later, the seized Jatka was distributed among various orphanages and helpless families in the presence of Barishal Sadar Upazila AC (Land) Mehedi Hasan and Fisheries Officer Sanjeev Sannamat while, the steel body was handed over to the Fisheries Department.
The official further said that Coast Guard will continue its operations in the areas under their jurisdiction to protect mother hilsa and prevent Jatka killing, to maintain law, order and public safety as well as to curb drug trade, piracy, forest piracy and robbery.
