DGFI officer murder case

49 including an Arsa leader indicted

The court of Bandarban accepted the charge sheet against 49 people including Amir Ataullah Junni of Myanmar’s armed terrorist group Arakan Salvation Army (Arsa) in connection with the murder of Squadron Leader Rizwan Rushdee, an officer of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).

Bandarban Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Nazmul Hosain's court accepted the charge sheet yesterday. The also issued an arrest warrant against the absconding accused.

According to information received from RAB, police and a special team of DGFI, on the evening of November 14, 2022, RAB went on an anti-narcotics operation near the Rohingya refugee camp on the zero line at the Tumbru border.

At that time, Rizwan Rushdee and Rohingya woman Sajeda Begum were killed by Rohingya terrorists. Sohel Barua, a member of RAB-15 Cox's Bazar, was shot dead. In this incident, the field officer of DGFI Cox's Bazar office at Naikhongchhari police station on the night of November 23 last year. Anwar Hossain filed a murder case naming 31 people as the plaintiff. In that case, on November 15 of this year, the investigation officer filed a complaint in the court in the name of 49 people including Arsa Amir Ataullah Abu Ammar alias Jununi and Arsa Ustad Khaled. The court accepted the complaint today. Besides, arrest warrants have been issued for the fugitive accused in the case.

A police source said that apart from those two, the charge sheet also includes Chairman Master Dil Mohammad, Secretary Maulvi Arif, Maulana Mostafa, Abdur Rahman, Arsa member Zubair, Shaker Kausar, Noman Chowdhury, Jinnat Ullah, Lal Mohammad, Hafiz Noor, Rahim Ullah, in the charge sheet. Maulvi Aziz is also named.

The investigating officer of the case Mahafuz Imtiaz said that 13 accused in this case have been arrested and sent to jail. The operation to arrest the remaining accused is continuing. However, the investigation officer also claimed that arrests are taking time as many of the accused have fled outside the country including Myanmar.

In this regard, Bandarban court police inspector AK Fazlul Haque said that the court accepted the charge sheet against 49 accused yesterday. 9 of the accused are in Bandarban Jail. The court has issued arrest warrants against the remaining absconding accused.

Abdul Mannan, OC of Naikhongchhari police station, said that police, RAB and several intelligence agencies are working to nab the accused in the murder case. However, it takes time to catch the accused as most of the accused are staying outside the country.
