The 48 kilometre length Jashore-Jhenidah four-lane highway will open the door of huge possibility in the western zone and create better raid communication with a good number of districts. It will be a new route to connect with Mongla and Benapole land ports, and help increase better bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India.
The information was disclosed in a workshop at the conference room of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Jhenidah on Monday. The workshop was arranged under the Western Economic Corridor and Regional Enhancement Programme (WeCare), with executive engineer (XEN) of the department Ariful Islam in the chair.
Social development consultant of the World Bank Brigadier (retired) Anisuzzaman Bhuiyan, Shad Mahmud Choudhury and Hasna Maymuna, consultants of environmental safeguards of the World Bank and assistant commissioner of the office of the deputy commissioner Razia Akter Chowdhury among others remain present.
The participants expressing the socio-economic and geographical aspects of the highway said it would be an opportunity of the people of vast tract of area. They gave emphasis on the arable lands, educational, religious or other existing structures on the both sides of the roads. They also opined to transplant ornamental plants on the middle of the roads, while medium size timber and fruit bearing trees on the roadsides for a better-looking and suitable environment.
Construction of single roads on both sides of the highway was also discussed in the workshop.
