A faction of Students of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) demanded the removal of Awami League-affiliated teachers and officers from key administrative positions. They submitted a memorandum to the university's Vice-Chancellor and set a deadline for action.
On Saturday, they gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the administration.
The students held a press conference at the JUST Journalist Association's office, where they announced their demands on Saturday. Following the conference, they met with the Vice-Chancellor with their demand.
In a written statement, the students claimed that former Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossain had allegedly established a strong syndicate involving recruitment and tender business during his seven-year tenure, benefiting from alleged authoritarian influence. They further said we demand the immediate removal of all associates of authoritarian practices at JUST.
Responding to the memorandum, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Abdul Majid said anyone involved in corruption at this university will face consequences following investigation. The students' stand against corruption is commendable, and I will provide all necessary support from my position to help them build a corruption-free environment.
