Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in 58 battalion on Moheshpur in Jhenaidah seized 47 rear species of tortoises from Matila bordering are under the upazila on Saturday night.
They were brought from neighboring India. BGB 58 battalion commanding officer (CO) lieutenant colonel Masud Parvez confirmed the matter. He said that a gang of smugglers had brought a huge consignment of 47 tortoises. The BGB personnel has raided the area and managed to seized the tortoises, while the said smugglers managed to flee in the dark of the night. The tortoises were kept in containers.
Later the tortoises were handed over to Boyra forestry department office of Khulna wildlife conservation unit, said lieutenant colonel Masud Parvez.
