Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has removed 411.50 metric tons of waste from the Banasree Canal (Meradia Canal) section.
This waste was removed from 12 noon to 3 pm on Wednesday. The waste has been removed through 64 trips, said a press statement issued by the DSCC on Thursday.
The notofication stated that, according to the comments of the officials and employees concerned in the waste removal programme, only one ton out of the 411.50 tons of waste is sacrificial waste.
Besides, the rest of the waste includes rotten fruits, fruit baskets, remnants of construction materials (rubbish) etc. Various news were published in the media about the removal of waste from that part of the canal bank of Banasree area. After the matter came to the attention of the chief executive officer of the corporation Mizanur Rahman, he ordered the waste management department to remove it and said, remove the waste from the canal bank of Banasree area to give relief to the people of Dhaka without asking which city corporation the area is under.
As per the direction of the chief executive officer, DSCC started the waste removal operation with 10 dump trucks, one wheel scoop and one back-hoe loader and necessary manpower from 12 noon on Wednesday.
