40-yr old loan default cases disposed of in Ctg

Chattogram Financial Debt Court has settled 40-year-old loan issuance 13 cases filed by Janata Bank Limited to recover defaulted loans.

Rezaul Karim, Bench assistant of the debt court, confirmed this information on Thursday.  Janata Bank has recovered more than Tk 2 crores of defaulted loans in this case.

According to court sources, Janata Bank Limited filed a case in the Financial Debt Court to recover the loan disbursed in 1980. 

 According to the judgment of the case, as the defaulting defendants did not pay the decreed amount within the specified time, a money loan issue case was filed against the defaulting defendants.  On the application of the bank, arrest warrants were issued against the defaulters, but for 20 years, the defaulters did not pay the debt and were not arrested.  Md. Jahangir Chowdhury, a defaulter in 8 cases due to court supervision, was released in 2021 after paying Tk 1 crore.

The court took the initiative to pay the 40-year-old defaulter.  Judge Mujahidur Rahman of Chattogram Financial Debt Court acquitted businessman Md Jahangir Chowdhury from 8 cases.  The court acquitted the 5 cases filed against the defaulter Sheikh Abdul Momin of Janata Bank Laldighi branch on payment of all liabilities.

Mohammad Badrul Riaz, Panel lawyer of Janata Bank, said that after the supervision of the current judge Mujahidur in the Chattogram Debt Court, the case was settled and the amount of the defaulted loan was recovered.  Due to strict court action, the citizens of defaulting states are forced to return the money to the bank.

 Janata Bank Ltd,Chattogram Region General Manager SM Abdul Wadud said that the collection of defaulted loans of all financial institutions including our banks has increased at a significant rate through the debt court.  In the last two years, 49 cases of our bank have been settled in the debt court.  Out of which there are 30-year-old loan issuance cases.  Due to the strict stance of the courts, the defaulters have come forward to repay the defaulted loans.
