At least 40 female students fell sick after having Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccines in Kaliganj of Jhenaidah. They were given the vaccine at 10.00am on Monday, after which they were admitted to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex (UHC) with vomiting, nausea, and headache.
All of them are students of Monohorpur Pukuria Dakhil Madrasa of Kaliganj.
The physicians of the health complex said they were recovering faster and hopping to return home as early as possible as the illness was not so risky.
Some of the teachers, sick students, and guardians said the upazila health administration started the vaccination programme for the juvenile girl as a part of their month-long programme. But at least 40 female students fell sick. They were rushed to the health complex.
UHC physicians said the girls fell sick due to severe hot weather, and all of them were given the vaccine in an empty stomach. They are taking intensive care of the students so that they could be cured as early as possible.
Upazila health and family planning officer (UHFPO) at Kaliganj, Dr. Alamgir Hossain, said a total of 24 girls had left the UHC having treatment and might be released within the next few hours.
