4 to die in Rajshahi restaurant worker killing case

A trial tribunal on Sunday convicted four persons, including a woman, and sentenced them to death each in the killing case of a restaurant worker last year.

The convicts are-- Badal Mondal, 45, Bimal Sing, 50, and his wife Anjali Rani, 45, and their son Subodh Sing, 20. They were also fined Taka 10,000 each.

Judge of Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Tribunal Anup Kumar found the convicts guilty of the murder charge and pronounced the verdict in presence of them in the court dock this noon.

Public Prosecutor of the court Advocate Entajul Haque said Prokash Sing, 20, son of Nirmal Sing of Choirkhor village under Tanore upazila in the district, went on missing on March 28, 2021 and his throat-slit body was found in a nearby crop field on the following day.

 Prokash used to work in Noborup Mistanna Bhandar as a serviceman in Rajshahi city and he was staying in his village home due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Advocate Haque said the accused killed Prokash as sequel to a previous enmity related to an extra-marital affair.

Father of the victim lodged a case with Tanore Police Station on the same day. 

Upon completion of the investigation, police pressed charges accusing them as they confessed their involvement in the pre-planned killing.

The Tribunal examined recorded depositions of 20 prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidences and handed down the verdict in a jam-packed court.
