Four people have been injured in a clash between two rival groups over establishing supremacy at Nalua Bazar in Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat district.
Witnesses said the clash took place in Joy Filling Station area around 7:30pm on Friday. On receiving information, the police went to the spot and took control of the situation.
Milu Sheikh, 20, Mahidul Islam, 35, Jasim Sheikh, 28, and Noor Islam, 30, were injured in the clash. The injured were admitted to Chitalmari Upazila Health Complex at night.
The police recovered one round of gun cartridge and one round of cartridge shell from the spot of the clash. A written complaint has been filed with the police station. However, there have been conflicting statements on the matter.
Source said that there was a dispute between Sat Bhai (Hossain Ali) group and Biplob Fakir (Tarikul Islam) group over establishing supremacy at Nalua Bazar. Due to this dispute, the clash took place in the Joy Filling Station area around 7:30pm on Friday. At that time, the local people were scared and ran away due to the sound of gunshots.
Md Hossain Ali Sheikh of Sat Bhai Group said, “We have been in a conflict with Biplob Fakir Group for a long time on various issues, including dominance. As a result of this incident, a group of people led by Biplob Fakir and his brother Jewel Fakir attacked our people on Friday evening. At this time, four people from my side were injured in their attack. A few rounds of their gun fire made people run away in panic. They broke the glass of my uncle's shop and the cash counter of Joy filling station. In this incident, I filed a complaint with the police station mentioning the names of 22 people, including Biplob Fakir and his brother Jewel Fakir.”
Tarikul Islam Biplob of Biplob Fakir group denied shooting and said, “The licence of the short gun is in my name. The bullets allocated for my gun remain the same. There were no clashes. A chase and counter-chase took place over beating up of my nephew Dalim Fakir. Talks are going on at the mentor level. The matter will be resolved.”
On Saturday, Chitalmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Swapan Kumar Roy said after receiving the information, the police went to the spot and took control of the situation. At this time, one round of gun cartridge and one round of cartridge shell were recovered from the clash site. “I have received a written complaint in this incident. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation,” he said.
