Police seized huge quantity of Yaba pills and cash of Taka 140,000 and arrested four persons including two women in separate drives in Jhenaidah.
A contingent of detective branch (DB) police led by DB officer-in-charge (OC) Anwar Hossain raided the rented house of Hazera Khatun at Harinakundu Madrashahpara on Saturday evening. The policemen seized 1,400 pieces of Yaba pills and cash Taka 1.4 lakh from a drawer in the house.
Police arrested Hazera Khatun, 40, daughter of Khorjel Ali and wife of Shahidul Islam of Hakimpur schoolpara in Alamdanga of Chuadanga. The law enforcers also arrested Amena Kjhatun, 41, wife of Shariful Islam of Patbatipur Amerchara under Hainakundu upazila.
DB OC Anwar Hossain said Hazera Khatun was not only an ordinary drug vendor, she is also a gang leader of drug trafficking and dealing several lakh Taka every day. She has an organize network for the drug trading in Jhenidah, Chuadanga and surrounding districts.
In a separate drive, police also detained two drug vendors and seized 115 grams of hemp from their possession from Chandpara area under the municipality.
Jheniadah police station officer in charge Mijanur Rahman said acting on a tip off, the police men raided a house at the village on Saturday night and arrested Tutu Hossain, 27, son of Bazlur Rahman of the village and Saiful Islam, 45, son of Panjab Ali of Khulumbaria village in Shailkupa. Police OC said the detained were engaged in selling hemp in Jhenidah Sadar and Shailkupa upazila for a long. Separate cases were filed with respective police stations, the police said.
