4 electrocuted in Sylhet, die

At least four people died of electrocution in flood-hit Sylhet and Chattogram in last three days. They were electrocuted by underwater slit power cables.

Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has issued a notification to raise awareness among the people in the flood affected areas. Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BERB) has also made awareness campaign in the flood-affected areas.

In Sylhet city, a Juba League leader was electrocuted on 18 June near his home in Shaplabag area after he came in contact with flood water electrified with torn power cables.  The deceased, Titu Chowdhury, had his home submerged with flood water. 

Sabbir Ahmed (18), a restaurant worker in Bishwanath at Sylhet district has died after being electrocuted by a power line of a generator. The incident took place at Rajdhani Restaurant in Bishwanath Old Bazaar around 8 pm on June 19.

Two people have died in such an incident in Chattagram on June 20. The two men were electrocuted in the rising water on the ground floor of a building. 

BPDB in its notification has called for taking extra precautions to avoid electricity- related accidents during floods and storms.

The notification said that in case of any incident of tearing of power cables due to flood, storm or any other reason, one should immediately inform of the nearest complaint center.
