4,000 water filters distributed among Rohingya families

Global Development Services has distributed 4,000 water filters among Rohingya families in Bhasanchar of Hatiya upazila, an isolated island upazila in Noakhali district.

On Thursday, water filters were distributed to the families of different shelters of the day-long project.

Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (Deputy Secretary) Moazzem Hossain, who is in charge of the Bhasanchar Rohingya camp, confirmed the matter.

He said that 4,000 filters of pure water have been distributed to Rohingya families under the initiative of Global Development Services under the supervision of manpower of various NGOs. Each Rohingya family has been given one filter to ensure pure drinking water facilities.

Earlier in the day, two naval ships, BNS Tuna and BNS Timi, arrived in Bhasanchar at noon on Thursday with a total of 137.28 metric tonnes of relief supplies from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

The two ships carry a total of 11 types of cargo for the Rohingyas. These are sleeping mats, blankets, plastic canvases, buckets, jerry cans , solar lamps, kitchen sets, female hygiene kits, laundry soaps, bathing soaps, jute bags.
