At least 37-people committed suicide in Ishawardi of Pabna during last 10 months. Among them, 18 were children, female students and house wives and 22 males, informed Ishwardi Police station sources.
Family feud, physical illness, dowry, torture, love affairs and parents' strict control over their offsprings have been identified as the main causes of those suicides. Most of the suicide victims were aged between 15 to 35.
Shahnaz Parvin Lily, Lecturer of the department of Sociology of Ishurdi Women's College said, the tendency of suicides among juviniles to the middle aged people have been increased recently due to utter disappointment, mental pain and social disparity.
Shahina Sultana, Upazila Female Affairs Officer informed, a social movement was necessary to discourage suicide. Campaign again suicide should be operated at the schools and colleges.
FA Asma Khan, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, informed family, teachers and friends should be made aware to check suicides.
