The 30th anniversary of Bangladesh Awami Swechasebak League, an associate body and the volunteer wing of the Bangladesh Awami League, was celebrated in Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna on Saturday.
Ishwardi Upazila and municipality units of Awami Swechasebak League jointly arranged the activities.
Among the activities, there were hoisting the national flag with singing the national anthem in front of the party office at Station Road of the town at 11:00am, placing wreath at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s portrait and discussion.
Besides, doa mahfil was held and foods were distributed among the destitute according to the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s birthday.
Member of Parliament of Pabna-4 constituency and organizing secretary of Zilla Awami League Galibur Rahman Sherif was the chief guest of the programme while Upazila Jubo League president Shirhan Sharif Tomal attended the programme as the special guest. Convener of Awami Swechasebak League Upazila committee Masud Rana moderated the programme.
A large number of leaders and activists of Swechasebak League, Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Sramik League and Mohila League were present at the programme. Among the top leaders, Ishwardi Upazila Chairman Md Emdadul Haque Rana Sardar, former Upazila Chairman Mokhlesur Rahman Mintu, Upazila Awami League leader Golam Mostafa Channa Mondol, Upazila Vice-Chairman Abdus Salam Khan and Atiya Ferdous Kakoli, Upazila Awami League Women’s Affair Secretary Mahzabin Shirin Piya, Municipality Panel Mayor Abul Hashem, Municipality Jubo League president Alauddin Biplob, Upazila Chatro League president Mallik Milon Mahmud Tonmoy, former president Rakibul Hassan Roni, Jatiya Sramik Legue leader Jahangir Alam, Upaizila Swechasebak League joint convener Sakhawat Hossain Sajib Malitha, Swechasebak League leader Aminur Rahman Shwapon and others were present.
Convener of Awami Swechasebak League Upazila committee Masud Rana said the anniversary of Awami Swechasebak League was celebrated limitedly without cake cutting and procession due to the terrorist activities and destruction caused by BNP and Jamaat-e-Islam during the anti-quota protest. However, a large number of leaders and activities were present at the programme. Cooked foods were distributed to more than four hundred destitute and helpless people according to the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s birthday, he added.
