Hilsa is a national resource. Protecting this resource is the moral responsibility of every citizen. And for the preservation of hilsa fish, the government has banned catching, transporting, selling and assisting in related activities from November 1 to June 30.
Around 10:30 am on Monday, people and journalists seized about 300 kg of jatka fish from two mixers on the north side of Aldi Bazaar in Munshiganj district's Tonggibari upazila. Tongibari Upazila Fisheries Officer Mocha Nigar Sultana was immediately informed as soon as the Jatka fish was seized. He sent Ashanand Biswas of Tongibari Fisheries Office to the spot. As Ashanand Biswas was late in reaching the spot, Samsuddin, Ward No. 6 member of Kathadia Shimulia Union, tied up the seized jatka fish and released the jatka traders. The Samsuddin member also misbehaved with the journalists present there.
The journalists said that the 6th Ward Member of Kathadia Shimulia Union, Samsuddin, took the illegal jatka fish seized from the north side of Aldibazar and gave them to the jatka traders.
He will play a role in preserving the national resource Hilsa as a public representative. But instead of doing that, he helped to kill the national resource Hilsa. Such behavior is not desirable for a public representative.
When Samsuddin member was contacted in this regard, he said that he did not agree to give any statement over the phone.
Md. Rubel, general secretary of Munshiganj Journalist Union, said that Kathadia Shimulia Union's 6th Ward member has committed a crime by releasing jatka fish. On the other hand, he misbehaved with the journalists. Which he cannot do as a public representative.
He should apologize to the people for this.
In this regard, Tonggibari Upazila Fisheries Officer Mocha Nigar Sultana said, the matter is very sad. I have asked for a written complaint in this regard. Journalists have given a written complaint.
The matter will be resolved by talking to the Upazila Executive Officer.
