Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr ASM Maqsud Kamal, conducted an inspection of the recently vandalised Ruqayyah Hall and Sir AF Rahman Hall on Friday afternoon. The inspection revealed extensive damage inflicted during recent protests related to the quota reform movement.
Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor were key university officials, including Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Muhammad Samad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr Sitesh Chandra Bachar, Treasurer Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, President of the Dhaka University Teachers Association Prof Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, Syndicate Member Prof Abu Hussain Muhammad Ahsan, and the provosts of the affected halls.
During the visit, Professor Dr Maqsud Kamal reported that approximately 300 rooms across various university halls had been damaged during the unrest. The university administration has completed an initial assessment of the damage, which includes both vandalism and arson.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism about restoring normalcy, stating that the university plans to commence its regular educational activities as soon as possible. This restoration process, he noted, is contingent upon receiving the necessary financial support from the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Professor Dr Kamal reassured the university community that efforts are underway to secure funding for the repairs and to ensure that academic activities can resume without further disruption.
