Locals captured three youths with arms while trying to kidnap a schoolgirl on gunpoint at Mirkamari Purbopara village of Salimpur union under Ishwardi upazila in Pabna on Tuesday night.
The youths were identified as Ashikur Rahman, 26, son of Ayub Kazi of Kollakandi village; Meherab Hossain, 25, son of Manzur Rahman; and Shamsul Haque, 24, son of Montu Pramanik of Char Mirkamari village. A pistol was recovered from Ashiqur’s possession.
Locals and police sources said a group of about 8-10 armed youths went to Santu Pramanik’s house at Mirkamari Purbapara village riding on a CNG and some motorcycles to kidnap the tenth grade student of Maniknagar Girls High School.
Family members of the girl shouted for help when the group of miscreants tried to drag out the girl from her home, showing fire arms. Hearing the shout, locals gathered and caught three youths red handed. Rest of the miscreants managed to flee the scene.
Locals handed over the miscreants to police after a team of police led by Bikash Chakraborty, sub-inspector of Ishwardi Police Station, rushed to the spot.
Bahauddin Faruqi, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station said during primary interrogation the detainees confessed involvement in the failed kidnap attempt.
