At least three alleged cattle were thieves lynched by a mob in Narail in the early hours of Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the Sadar Upazila’s Tularampur area near the Narail-Dhaka-Benapole highway, according to Sajedul Islam, chief of Narail Sadar Police Station.
Cattle theft has been a recurring issue in the Tularampur area for a while, according to locals.
Witnesses said the three suspected thieves went to the home of local resident Tarafdar Bakhtiar Hossain Hannan early in the morning. The barking of a dog alerted the homeowner, who began to scream.
Village residents subsequently chased down the three men and beat them to death. Call records on the phones of the dead revealed that two of them hailed from Bogura’s Shibganj.
“We are trying to contact the families of the dead,” said OC Sajedul. “We have initially identified two of them. We are trying to identify the third.”
