3 members of fraud gang arrested

Amid coronavirus panic all over the country, fraud gangs are still active in Pabna's Ishwardi upazila.  Police have arrested three members of the extortionist gang on Tuesday raiding various parts of the town after a case was filed in this connection. They used to extort money from people by blackmailing them.

The arrestees are - Saurav Kumar Debnath Krishna, 29, son of Pobitra Ranjan Devnath, Ripon Kumar Sarkar, 27, son of Swapan Kumar Sarkar and Mostafa Ali, 35, son of Mochan Ali of Nurmahalla in the municipal area.

The other three accused in the case Moinul Islam, Pushpa and China are absconding.

According to police and case statement, the members of the group build a love affair with a businessman of Pailanpur area under Pabna Sadar police station Hafizur Rahman over social network Facebook. He was taken taken to Madhumati Villa, next to Akbar More in Ishwardi. There, businessman Hafizur Rahman was beaten up and forcibly photographed with a woman associated with the gang. Threatening to spread the photos on social media the gang extorted a good amount of money from Hafizur.

Police conducted a raid in several places of the town and arrested three people after a written complaint was filed wiyh the police station. Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Bahauddin Farooqui said three people of the fraud gang had already been arrested.

They were sent to jail by a Pabna court. The remaining accused are absconding. Efforts are underway to arrest them. Additional Superintendent of Police of Ishwardi circle, Md. Feroz Kabir, said there were female members in the fraud grop. They used to trap men by building love affaire with them and extort money from them. Policemen are working to arrest all members of the circle.
