Three people, including the driver of an auto rickshaw, were killed when a Rajshahi-bound truck hit them while they were crossing the road at Salanga in Sirajganj's Ullapara upazila.
The accident took place under the Panchlia foot-over bridge of Salanga Police Station around 5:30 am on Wednesday (August 25).
The deceased were identified as Haider Ali, 60, son of late Fulchand of Panchlia village under Salanga police station, van driver Khodabox, 50, son of late Motahar Hossain of the same village and Shahadat Hossain, 55, of Paikosha village under Kamarkhand upazila. Witnesses said Haider Ali, Khodabox and Shahadat Hossain took an autorickshaw from Panchlia to Shahjadpur on Wednesday morning.
A Rajshahi-bound truck loaded with autorickshaws was crushed while crossing the road under the Panchlia Bazar foot-over Bridge. They died on the spot.
Hatikumrul Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahjahan Ali confirmed the accident and said the body was recovered with the help of Fire Service and Highway Police and handed over to the family. However, the deadly truck has not been identified yet. The case is being prepared.
