Three people were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ with police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in three districts-- Bagerhat, Pabna and Dinajpur-- early on Tuesday.
In Pabna, a man was killed in a 'gun battle' with police at Santhia upaizla in the district, reports out Santhia Correspondent.
Police claimed that the deceased was the head of the inter-district robbery gang and the main accused in the murder case of Mahadev Sarkar. The deceased was identified as Sarwar Hossain Sarow, 36, son of Harun or Rashid alias Haru Bapari of Punduria village in the upazila.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Pabna Gautam Kumar Biswas said Pabna DB and Santhia Police Station men went on a joint operation around 2 am on the basis of the news that a gang of robbers was conducting a secret meeting at Shamukjani Bazar of Karmaja Union in Sathia Upazila.
The robbers started shooting at the police sensing their presence. Police also opened fire in dself-defense. At some point during the shooting the robbers retreated and fled away.
Later, Sarwar Hossain, who was shot at the scene, was rescued as wounded and taken to Pabna General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police also recovered a local made gun, a cartridge and a knife from the scene. Two policemen were injured in the incident. They were given primary treatment.
In Bagerhat, an alleged robber gang leader was killed in a reported gunfight with RAB at Kodalia canal area under Sundarbans East Zone under Mongla upazila. The deceased was identified as Faruk Moral, 38, son of Akbar Moral of Kolabagi village under Dacope upazila in Khulna.
Lt Col Rawshanul Firoz of RAB-6 said that they conducted a drive in the area at 7:00 am. At the time, the robbers fired at them triggering a battle. Later, RAB detained Faruk from the spot and took him to Mongla Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctors declared him dead.
In Dinajpur, Md Ferdous Fahim, 38, of Aolakuri village in Birganj upazila was killed in a reported gunfight with police. Moniruzzaman Monir, officer-in-charge of Birampur Police Station, said that on information that the drug traders were bringing drugs from bordering area, police took position beside Mirpur field.
At the time, the drug traders fired at police and Fahim was killed in the ensuing gunfight. Fahim was accused in several cases. A pipe gun, three bullets, three cartridges, a sharp weapon, two daggers and 100 bottles of phensedyl were recovered from the spot.
