Three cousins drowned in Padma River on Sunday at Bagha upazila in Rajshahi.
The deceased were identified as Jim, 17, a student of class XI of Mirganj College, Esha Khatun, 9, a primary student, both daughters of Zillur, and Shipra, 12, a class six student of Mirganj Girls High School and daughter of Shahidul of Vanukar village under Mirgamj union of Bagha upazila
However; Zillur and Shahidul
are siblings.
Mohsin Ali, Officer-in-Charge of Bagha police station, confirmed the matter.
Jim, Esa and Shipra, three sisters went to the bank of the Padma River near Mirganj BOP camp, for taking a bath at noon.
After getting into the water, suddenly Esa and Shipra drowned in water. Watching them drowning, Jim jumped into water to rescue them but she also drowned
under water.
Later, local people spotted the bodies floating on the water and recovered them. They were taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where the on duty doctors declared them dead.
Shahin Reza, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Bagha, expressed his regret at the tragic death of three sisters by drowning under water and announced financial support to the family members of deceased for performing funeral of three
dead sisters.
