250 homeless families in Satkhira to get houses

A total of 250 landless and homeless families in Satkhira will get houses in the 5th phase on Tuesday. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the houses through a virtual ceremony on the day (June 11).

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Humayun Kabir gave the information at a press briefing held at Satkhira Deputy Commissioner's conference room on Sunday. Additional Deputy Commissioner Bishnupada Pal, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shoaib Ahmad, other administrative officials and journalists from various print and electronic media were present during the press briefing.

Deputy Commissioner Humayun Kabir told the press briefing that 250 landless and homeless families have been selected in Ashashuni and Sadar upazilas of the district in the 5th phase. Of them, 140 two-room single houses will be provided in Ashashuni upazila and 110 newly constructed two-room single houses will be provided by replacing dilapidated barrack houses of Balitha Ellarchar Shelter Project in Satkhira Sadar upazila. 

The deputy commissioner said if Ashashuni upazila is declared landless and homeless free by providing houses, Satkhira district will be declared landless and homeless free.

Besides, he said Tk 2,93,700 allocated for each house for registration of settlement acceptance document, naming and house certificates and name plaques for the houses built for the beneficiaries has already been given to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Ashashuni. Earlier, the remaining upazilas of the district were declared landless and homeless free. In a written statement, DC Humayun Kabir said 3,227 homeless and landless families have been rehabilitated in Satkhira district from the 1st to 4th phases.
