24 candidates have been declared valid in 3 constituencies of Munshiganj for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections. On the other hand, the nomination of 8 candidates has been cancelled.
After selecting the nominations of 32 candidates, District Returning Officer Md. Abuzafar Ripon BPAA disclosed this information before the journalists at 5 pm on Sunday.
According to sources, 10 out of 11 candidates in Munshiganj-3 seat, 6 out of 10 candidates in Munshiganj-2 seat and 8 out of 11 candidates in Munshiganj-1 seat were declared as valid candidates.
The valid candidates for Munshiganj-1 (Sirajdikhan-Srinagar) constituency are Antara Selima Huda of Trinamool BNP, Ata Ullah of Bangladesh Khilafat Movement, Ataur Rahman of Zaker Party, Doel Akhtar of National People's Party, Nurjahan Begum Rita of Bangladesh Congress, Mohiuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh Awami League, Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP) Latif Sarkar and Jatiya Party's Sheikh Muhammad Sirajul Islam. On the other hand, the nomination of Mahi Badruddoza Chowdhury of the alternative category was canceled as he was the guarantor of the defaulter.
Independent candidate Golam Sarwar Kabir's nomination was canceled due to non-signature of 1 voter or 1 voter being abroad. The nomination of Md Farid Hossain of BNF was canceled as the proposer was not a voter of the concerned area.
The valid candidates for Munshiganj-2 (Tongibari-Louhajong) seat are Mohammad Sahidur Rahman of Islamic Front Bangladesh, Independent Mohammad Sairaj Khan, Zaker Party also Md Zakir Hossain, National People's Party also Md Jalal Dhali, Trinamool BNP Md Jahanur Rahman and Bangladesh Awami League Sagufta Yasmin.
On the other hand, the nomination of independent candidate Sohana Tahmina was canceled as the signature of 1 public opinion was forged and the signature of a dead person was taken. The nomination of Md. Kamal Khan of Bangladesh Congress was canceled due to non-submission of educational qualification certificate.
BNF Bachchu Sheikh's nomination was canceled due to non-submission of income tax returns. Lately Noor Alam Siddiqui's nomination was canceled due to non-filing of income tax return and lack of new bank account.
The valid candidates in Munshiganj-3 (Munshiganj Sadar-Gazaria) constituency are Jatiya Party's A. F. M. Rafiqullah Salim, Independent Chowdhury Fahria Afrin, Babul Mia of Islamic Front Bangladesh, Muhammad Omar Farooq of Bangladesh Islamic Front, Mrinal Kanti Das of Bangladesh Awami League, Independent Mohammad Faisal, Independent Md Azim Khan, Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP) Md Dulal Hossain Mandal, Bangladesh Cultural Muktijot (Muktijot) Md. Shahin Hossain and Zaker Party also Shamim Haider Mollah. On the other hand, the nomination of Mumtaz Sultan Ahmed was canceled due to non-submission of income tax returns.
According to the public notice signed by the Munshiganj District Returning Officer, an appeal can be filed against the decision of the Returning Officer in the selection of nomination papers on December 05-09, 2023.
