At least 24 children drowned in floodwater in Kurigram and Lalmonirhat districts in the last month.
Of them, 18 children were from Kurigram and six from Lalmonirhat, civil surgeons of both districts confirmed the matter.
Children below eight years of age are at risk of drowning in floodwater.
Anisur Rahman (35), from Nawdabas village in Kurigram'sPhulbariupazila, said, "My two-year-old son drowned right beside our home on July 10. He was playing alone in the yard and fell into the water."
"Later his body was recovered from the floodwater," Anisur said.
Kurigram Civil Surgeon DrHabibur Rahman has said drowning of children in floodwaters has become a serious concern.
Health officials in the field level have been ordered to conduct awareness campaigns among parents on this matter, he said.
Atiar Rahman, Gaddimari union chairman of Hatibandha in Lalmonirhat has said a lack of awareness among guardians on this issue is to blame. He has urged for further vigilance on the matter.
