The 23rd International Mathematics Conference has began at the Rajshahi University (RU) with the theme of "The Language of Science" today.
The Bangladesh Mathematics Samity (BMS) and the RU Department of Mathematics (RDM) are jointly hosting the two-day conference.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Abdul Wadud addressed the opening ceremony of the conference at Senate Building as chief guest while Prof Zulfiker Ali of RU Mathematics Department was in the chair. RU Pro-Vice-chancellors Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam and Prof Humayun Kabir spoke as patrons. BMS President Prof Shahidul Islam, Dean of RU Science Faculty Prof Nasima Akhter, RDM Chairman Prof Asabul Haque also addressed the inaugural ceremony.
In his remarks, State Minister Abdul Wadud said mathematics is one of the main pillars of science and different subjects of science are influenced by mathematics.
He mentioned that the mathematics has become indispensable in the current development era of science.
State Minister Wadud expected that research trends and the way forward related to mathematics and its relevant matters will come from the presented papers in the conference.
During his keynote presentation, Prof Dipanker Chowdhury from Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, talked about the aspects of applied mathematics in sustainable earthquake resistant design and geo-structures.
In the conference, around 130 research papers related to mathematics and its relevant subjects are scheduled to be presented in 20 technical sessions. Around 200 teachers, researchers and professionals from home and abroad are taking part in the two-day conference.
