Coronavirus (Covid-19) was detected in 23 people in the first day sample test at the PCR lab of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet.
The report of the sample test in the lab was informed to the concerned authorities around 1 pm on Wednesday.
Samples of 91 people were tested at SUST Lab on Wednesday, said Ziaul Faruk Joy, an assistant professor in the university's genetic engineering and biotechnology department. He said that after that 23 people reported positive.
Although all the newly identified are residents of Sylhet district, Assistant Professor Ziaul Faruk Joy could not confirm which upazilas they were from. He said the Civil Surgeon's Office in Sylhet would be able to say that.
Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases in Sylhet district has risen to 229 with the help of those identified in the SUST lab. Coronavirus was detected in the bodies of 22 people in the PCR lab of Osmani Medical College on Wednesday; 21 of them are residents of Sylhet district.
A total of 45 corona cases were detected in two labs of Osmani Medical College and SUST in one day, resulting in a total of 494 people in four districts of Sylhet division. 8 of them died.
The specialised laboratory for detecting Covid-19 was inaugurated at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on May 18.
